Description:
Design, Author Supervision, and Construction of the New Liepāja Prison Complex
General information about the complex:
- Total land area: 305 116 m²
- Total building area: 38 100 m²
- Capacity: 1 200 inmates
- The complex consists of six functionally significant buildings: two inmate residential blocks, an education and employment center, an administration and checkpoint building, a high-security and hospital block, and an open-type prison.
- The territory is fully landscaped – roads have been renewed and new utility networks have been constructed, creating a well-organized and modern environment.
Safety and Resocialization
During the design process, safety was set as one of the main priorities – for both inmates and staff. At the same time, special attention was given to resocialization opportunities. The education and employment center, along with other functional solutions of the complex, provide conditions that support inmates’ reintegration into society after serving their sentences.
Project significance
The New Liepāja Prison is not only the most modern and largest complex of its kind in Latvia but also the most important national project in the field of security and resocialization infrastructure in the past decade. Its modern and carefully considered design ensures operational efficiency, high safety standards, and a suitable working environment for staff.
