Description:

From 28 to 29 November 2006 the 19th NATO Summit took place, the location of which was Riga. This was the first NATO Summit to be held in the former territory of the USSR, and Latvia only entered NATO in 2004. Therefore, this was significantly important event, the technical safety requirements of which can be evaluated as the highest. We were responsible for the provision of telecommunications and data flow infrastructure during the meeting of NATO state leaders. Within the project, we developed and implemented integrated solutions of telecommunication infrastructure, which provided the construction of communication and IT infrastructure.

To adjust the premises of the Olympic Sports Centre for this significant event, design and construction works of two blocks were additionally implemented. Additional premises were necessary – the administrative block and the pool, which were turned into a room for journalists during the Summit, in, which hundreds of journalists gathered from all over the world. Outside, using about 150 SIA Ramirent modules, a city of modules was created, in which the journalists could reside. In cooperation with SIA Lattelecom we developed the detail design for the optical network and data network with two closed rings, i.e., with double security, thus protecting the data from any external threats, which is especially important in an event of such a scale. We had to execute a very large amount of work in a very short term – the period of works was only four months. For comparative purposes – in ordinary conditions such an amount of work would have to be implemented within eight months. To work on this project, special admittance to state secrets was necessary, therefore we had to count on limited resources of employees. All the necessary checks and tests had to be passed within very short terms to obtain the Industrial Safety Certificate.

Within the preparation of the NATO Summit venue – the Olympic Sports Centre (project development, construction, facilitation, designing etc.) a total of about 1400 people were involved, and 20 of them were experts from SIA Citrus Solutions.
